In the decades prior to the formation of the Phillipsburg Area Historical Society, several groups of individuals have collaborated in the study, documentation and preservation of the history of Phillipsburg and its neighboring municipalities and townships. They launched projects such as the town’s 50th and 100th anniversary celebrations, the Soldiers and Sailors memorial and the formation of a free public library. This loose collection of like-minded people eventually organized into an historical society that met on a regular basis for many years.
